Health insurance is a complicated subject and it is not surprising that so many people do not fully understand the complexities of a health insurance plan. For example, people are often confused by the fact that some patients visiting their doctor have to pay what is called a “co-pay” when they leave, while other patients are not asked to pay anything at all. Both sets of patients have health insurance but, in simple terms, they have different types of plan.

In many cases you will have insurance provided by your employer and he will pay the major part of any monthly or annual premium to support the plan. Each time you visit the doctor however you will be asked to make a “co-pay” or “co-payment” which is simply a small contribution towards the cost of treatment. This is common in many insurance plans and helps the insurer to keep premium payments down in a fiercely competitive market and also helps to deter people from making unnecessary visits to the doctor for minor complaints which they can treat themselves quite adequately at home.

If you do need to visit the doctor frequently then one way to help reduce your expenditure and to even out your medical expenses from month to month is to open a Healthcare Savings Account or HSA. In this case you elect for a fixed sum to be deducted from your pre-tax income each month and deposited on your behalf into an HSA. You can then draw money from this account to meet the cost of health care and effectively reduce your healthcare costs because the money in this account comes from your salary before, rather than after, you pay tax on your salary.

Another way to pay for healthcare if you are over the age of 65 or suffer from certain disabilities is Medicare which, while it will not meet all of your medical expenses, will meet the majority of your medical bills. One drawback to Medicare is that it does not cover the cost of drugs or of nursing home fees and it is important for you to check the many different restrictions which apply to Medicare plans. It is not all bad news though as there are prescription plans and low cost prescription discount cards available which can save you up to half the cost of purchasing prescription medications.

These are of course just a couple of ideas and the secret really lies in looking at a variety of different plans and deciding just which plan would suit you best. For example, would you prefer to pay a higher monthly or annual premium and not pay for treatment, or to pay lower premiums and have to make “co-pays” each time you attend for treatment?

One final thing to remember is that the cost of your health insurance plan and how you pay that money is only one consideration and you should never choose a plan solely on the basis of how much it costs. Look carefully at all of the benefits you will receive from a plan, as well as the restrictions on cover, and select a plan which best suits your own needs.

Hundreds of medigap insurance companies have grown up all over United States. Now, what does a private medigap insurance company really do? Nearly each and every person has got health insurance from some state or country level government services. But, these government services often leave gaps in their policies, so to fulfill these gaps people purchase Medicare supplemental plans from the private insurance companies. These private health insurance plans costs a lot more than the govt. provided plans. But, people go for these just because the services of these companies are much better. The agents are always very helpful, they arrange for all the formalities that are required for purchasing the Medicare plans.

There are 12 Medicare supplemental plans, named from A-L, are available in all over United States. The plans (A, B, C to L) are equal for all companies, as these plan details are set by the govt. of United States. Each plan has its own specialty and benefits for the recipients. These plans are meant for a single person only. Recipient’s family members are not paid, as they do not fall under the policy. However, there some rules a person has to follow; he or she cannot purchase Supplemental Medicare Insurance Plans if that person does not have Medicare Part-A or Medicare Part-B. Owning these two policies can only allow them to purchase the Medigap insurance.

One of the few benefits of these policies is that a person can start his insurance whenever he or she wants. Usually, the policy starts on the first day of the next month. But if the person wants to start it in any specific date, then either the agent or the any other company personal must be contacted. People usually receive their Medicare Supplemental Insurance policy within 30 days of their purchase. If by any chance, this fails, then the person must contact the Medicare Supplemental Insurance office. During filling up the form, a person must read it very carefully and ask the insurance agent if there is anything confusing. If the form is filled up by the agent, then also read it very carefully, because the company will not pay any coverage if there is any mistake in the form.

The prices of these insurance plans vary from state to state. Some of the well known insurance companies are Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, BlueShield of California etc. All of these companies give the same benefit on the policies, only the cost differs. The benefits that are provided by these companies are set by the US govt., but the cost is set by the private insurance companies. These policies are usually made keeping the older citizens in mind, so that they do not have to face any economic problem if they are sick or undergoing treatment in any hospital. However, no one pays the full money required; only a part is paid by the insurance companies.

It may be confusing choosing the Best Medicare Supplemental Insurance company, but ones it is done, the insurance policies comes to be very helpful. Another thing that people must keep in mind, do not choose a company which offers insurance at very low rates. You can face problems when you are in need of money.

It is very true that many insurers would not necessary tell you everything especially if it would cost them some money. We need to be able to look out for ourselves.

Imagine a situation where after a surgery, which you got under a health coverage you are suddenly presented with a bill for something like payment for the anesthesiologist because he/she was out of the network.

The first thing is that you did not choose who applies your anesthesia so why do you have to pay for something that was not your decision? We need to knows ways to correct this.

If you know how to go about it, complaining about something like this and getting a refund would not be as difficult as you may otherwise have thought.

The following insights should be read thoroughly so you can find for yourself point in your favor.

One thing you really need to know is the details of your state health care policy because you could be entitled to more coverage for no extra coverage and your insurer is not making you aware of this. Of course they won’t. You have to find out his for yourself and make use of whatever information you find.

Normally, you need to convince your insurance company that you need health care they need to pay for. Let your physician know how you feel and get tested so your status can be certified so your insurer would be left in no doubt as to your need for medicare.

One thing that has been advised in seeking resolution of your complaints is the using of letters. I personally prefer emails because I get to have a record of sending the mail and can prove I did send it. The snail mail works too but that can be lost. If you need to step up your complaint you can refer to your past mails.

I don’t know how true this is but it said that insurance companies almost always respond to letters. I have not proven this but you can give it a try.

In sending out your letters, it is advised that you follow your insurers laid down process for appeals. It is a great idea to copy your state insurance commissioner and of course keep copies for yourself not forgetting to also keep every letter they send you. It is very important to have proof.

Some have recommending enlisting the help of your doctor. If you got some procedures by doctors orders, and your insurer is refusing to pay, then you can ask him to talk to the insurance company. If he threatens to report them to the state board in charge of health plans, they could change their minds.

It is funny that experts have advised against taking your complaint to the state board yourself. I guess we would have to make do with the threat of doing so.

It is possible to avoid all this by finding insurers with a solid reputation and history of fair play. You can also find better rates while doing the same which is comparing health insurance rates. You can do this by getting and comparing health insurance rates from quotes gotten from quotes comparison sites. Just fill out their online form and you would get quotes from several insurance companies.
